Abandoned Broward Correctional Institution

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL ME OR CALL ME ABOUT GETTING INTO THIS PLACE. THE PLACE IS NO LONGER THERE. IT HAS BEEN TORN DOWN.

PART 1  To see part 2 click here.

This is the Abandoned Broward Correctional Institution. Otherwise known as the woman’s correctional institution of Broward County in Florida.

This place closed down in 2012 since then it sits there quietly slowly dying away.

Abandoned Broward Correctional Institution

I have been to many many many abandoned places but the abandoned Broward Correctional Institution one was special and the weirdest one I have ever been to. This place has running water and electricity, it does!!! I’m not even joking. As you make your way through the prison you can switch on the lights and hear the AC units on, it’s the weirdest thing and it takes creepiness to a whole different level.

We went into every cell block and every room in this place. In fact, we even played basketball in the yard, there was a volleyball fully inflated sitting there, so I started shooting some hoops. It was strange.

There is paperwork all over this place, love letters in some cells and all kinds of weird stuff that are still fully functional. I suppose the inmates got lucky because all their paperwork got lost behind. The abandoned Broward Correctional Institution is one of the eeriest places I have ever been to.

About the prison:

The Broward Correctional Institution (BCI) was a correctional facility located in the former Country Estates CDP and in Southwest Ranches, Florida, operated by the Florida Department of Corrections.

The facility was opened in 1977 to house a male inmate population. However, in its history, the prison has had only female inmates. It housed female death row inmates until February 2003 when the female death row was moved to Lowell Annex. The Broward Correctional Institution served as a reception center for female inmates. As of 2011, a staff of approximately 272 individuals serviced the facility. As of 2012 624 prisoners, all female were housed there. The facility was closed in 2012. The closure was scheduled for May 1 of that year. The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel said, “BCI was determined to have a relatively low population and a high per diem inmate cost of $111.48.” ($116.87 when adjusted for inflation)” Wikipedia

I shot lots of pics including some aerials. Scroll down to go throughout them, leave me a comment below I would love to hear your thoughts on this. If you served time here, please leave your story. This is a great place to connect with others.

DJI Phantom Vision 2 review

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][text_output]DJI Phantom Vision 2 review:  Good morning everyone, so I have been asked by many to review the DJI Phantom Vision 2, here are my thoughts on it. Most importantly look at the photos and you decide if this is a good unit or not. I love mine and think its a cool affordable little unit with lots of potential. (click on the photo on the right to see the specs and price)[/text_output][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][image type=”none” float=”none” link=”true” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7581″ href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][text_output]When it arrived to my house it arrived in a really nice box, very well packaged. You have to put it together but its really simple, very self explanatory. They even give you tools incase you aren’t the handy type and don’t have any.[/text_output][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7810″ link=”true” href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][gap size=”1.313em”][text_output]The company claims this is really easy to fly, but I completely disagree. This is by no means a toy and it can be rather difficult to fly. You have to have a very good sense of directon  and be very coordinated. You also have to have good eyes, this thing will disappear in the sky. One thing is for sure, you will crash its just a matter of time. (I have seen many people crash this to complete destruction, I have crashed mine too, just not too bad) Be prepared for it. You also have to be careful not to hurt anyone around you including your self, trust me its not that hard to crash this thing into to your head.[/text_output][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7818″ link=”true” href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][gap size=”1.313em”][text_output]The battery:  On a full charge you can fly for about 25 minutes, trust me this is plenty of time to get the job done (unless you just want to play around).  I purchased an extra battery, thats just how I roll. If you are a serious photographer and are planning to use it a lot, I suggest you get an extra battery or two. Its nice to always have a full charge, specially during on a road trip.[/text_output][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7813″ link=”true” href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][gap size=”1.313em”][text_output]The Camera:  The camera is not very good, its mediocre at that. That being said, it will get the job done. The camera is capable of shooting both, JPEG and RAW files. The images you can get are good, not cover of a magazine good, but still really good if you spend a little bit of time on post. I use Lightroom but you can use any editing software out there to edit your files. (I have never tried the video on it)[/text_output][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7812″ link=”true” href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][gap size=”1.313em”][text_output]My over all thoughts:  I think this is a very good affordable unit. You can use it for fun or use it for work, either way for the price you can’t beat it. I am very happy with mine, and even though I wish the camera was a bit better, for the price you can not beat it. Its compact, its light and the best part about it, you can see what you are shooting before you click the shutter.[/text_output][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7809″ link=”true” href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][gap size=”1.313em”][text_output]I hope this was helpful to you guys, if you have any questions please drop me a line below. If you have one Id love to hear your experiences with this thing.  But most importanly I think the photos speak for themselves good or bad, this were all produced but the DJI Phantom Vision 2. This are both RAW and JPEGs. Can you tell witch one is witch?[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7811″ link=”true” href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][gap size=”1.313em”][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7814″ link=”true” href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][gap size=”1.313em”][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7815″ link=”true” href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][gap size=”1.313em”][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7816″ link=”true” href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][gap size=”1.313em”][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”7817″ link=”true” href=”http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/999838-REG/dji_djphvision_phantom_vision.html/BI/8661/KBID/9810/kw/DJPV/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xDJPV”][gap size=”1.313em”][text_output]All photos are taken in Miami Beach Florida and surrounding areas.[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Atlantis at Kennedy Space Center

It’s Friday!!!! What an insane week I have had, started off with the amazing Miami Beach Photography Club (organized and created by yours truly) and ended up at the Kennedy Space Center in Orlando Florida. OMG what an amazing week and series of events. Where do I even begin???? I suppose I will post photos and tell you about it photo by photo, for now here is this one.

The Atlantis at Kennedy Space Center, I mean WOW. How can I descrive to you what this thing looks like? I really can’t, anything I say will not do it justice. I have been wanting to see this for a very long time and I finally got to see it inches from my face. What an unbelievable experience. If you are reading this, you absolutely have to put this on your bucket list. When I first saw it I got tears on my eyes, this thing is an amazing human accomplishment and for it to be open to the public for everyone to admire you have to take full advantage of it. I spent about 3 hrs admiring this thing letting my imagination take me away, it is so incredible that I am going back in the near future to check it out again, thats how cool this is.

A big massive thank you to the Kennedy Space Center for putting this up for the world to see. One of the most amazing things I have ever seen.

I have so many trips infront of me, so many more memories to make, smiles over ice-cream and some crazy road trips ahead. Here is whats coming in the next couple months in chronological order: West-coast: Reno NV, SF for Outside Lands, Black Rock City for Burning Man, come back to Miami chill out for a week or so and head out to the East Coast to Boston, catch a plane to Iceland and kik it with my crazy friend in a van driving around looking for the Northern Lights. Shortly after I head down to Ecuador, I might squeeze more trips in-between but for now thats whats on the books. I will keep you posted. If you are going to be at any of those places and want to hook up for a beer, shoot me a message. Life is short peeps get busy!!! Click on pic to enlarge. (more photos coming soon)
