Everglades Reflections

This weekend was EPIC, I hosted 2 Everglades Photography Workshops and they were both amazing. Its always so good to meet new people and take them to this very special place, it is what fuels my addiction for photography.

This was my last shot of the night, literally. The sky was amazing, the colors where epic and the reflections on the water were perfect. I hardly had to do anything to this image. As you can see it just pops.

Where is the Z tree in the Everglades National Park

This is the most asked question I get. Where is the Z tree in the Everglades National Park? I am going to tell you right now. This is one of my favorite stops and it’s a place we visit often. This tree is exactly 2 miles on the left-hand side of the road if you are headed South from the Pa-hay-okee entrance. Once you get to the Pa-hay-okee sign reset your odometer and go exactly 2 miles.

Are you are looking for amazing skies for your images? Check out my vast library of EPIC sky overlays you can use to create award-winning photos.

THE GEAR

The gear I used for all my photos: Nikon D800 with a Nikon 14-24mm and a Nikon 24-85mm.  A MeFOTO tripod and a wide-angle is a must. I edit all my images with my Lightroom Presets download them and give them a try.

Where is the Z tree in the Everglades National Park Located?

The tree is hard to see when you are driving but when you stop and look right at exactly 2 miles, it will be right in front of your face. The tree is next to the road and very easy to get to and photograph, the only thing is that the conditions have to be right. If you go during the winter it will be surrounded by water, however, if you go during the summer, you will have full access to it.

When is the best time to shoot the Z tree?

The best time to photograph the Z tree is during sunrise or sunset. I prefer sunrise as the sun usually lines up with the tree if you face east. If you look at the last photograph in this post, it was shot in the middle of the day. It does not have the same look and feel as the other ones. Just with anything photography related, it is all about timing and good conditions. Lighting is everything.

The gear I used to shoot the Z tree was a Nikon D800 with my Nikon 14-24mm. All images except the last one were shot during sunrise.

So there you have it, that’s where the famous Z tree at the Everglades National Park is located. Go check it out and have fun out there. If this was helpful to you, please leave me a comment below. That’s the best compliment I can get.Z tree at the Everglades National Park

How to make the sun look big in my photos

This is a question I get often. Edin how do you make the sun look so massive in your photos?” I teach this at my photography workshops and often people are shocked at the results.

To achieve this is actually quite easy, all you need is a massive zoom. Most of us do not have a massive zoom, I totally understand that but even if you have a 200mm zoom lens it will do the job.

Once you are out on the field photographing the sun, make sure you zoom in directly at the sun, while doing this make sure you have some sort of foreground, in this case I used the trees at the Everglades National Park.

In the photos below you can see the difference between a photo shot at 70mm and the same shot at 600mm

In the professional lingo this is called compression. Compressing the sun. Now go out there and experiment, you will be surprised at the results.

Epic Landscapes

Epic landscapes is what you will see and experience out at the Everglades. I love being out here, for starters cell phone service is non existent, that in itself is worth the trip.

You can experience this and more at one of my Everglades photography workshops and torus. I have scouted out this place to take you to the most epic places out here at the best times of the day to get the perfect shots.
