Mexican Skies

Mexican Skies. This was across the street from where I used to live in Mexico. It truly was incredible being able to spend time in this beautiful place I call home.

This particular morning there was a storm in the middle of the ocean, you can see the heavy thick clouds to the right, that’s a massive storm. As the storm got closer to me, the sun kept fading away. When I shot this photo, the sun was peaking out of the heavy rain like an alligator peeking out of the water ready to catch its prey. This is a Mexican Sky.

I edited this photo with my Lightroom Presets, download them, and give them a try.

Tours I recommend in Playa del Carmen:

Abandoned Pier Playa del Carmen

Abandoned Pier Playa Del Carmen. This is the abandoned fishing pier in Playa del Carmen Mexico. It is a sight to see, and one of the coolest broken abandoned fishing piers I have ever stepped foot on.

You can actually swim to it and climb right up. You have to be super careful as there are a ton of rusty nails sticking up ready to send you to the hospital. So please be careful if you decide to be adventurous.

During sunset, the locals come here with a six-pack of beer and a joint to enjoy a nice sunset. I, however, like to show up with my camera.

On this day however I was shooting the sunrise and I decided to shoot it from shore, as the clouds behind it looked insane.

Tours I recommend in Playa del Carmen:

Las Coloradas Mexico

Las Coloradas Mexico/ What you see here are huge salt evaporation ponds for sea salt extraction. Some of them show peculiar colors due to microorganisms in the water, like the pink lagoon. Note that in order for you to catch the ultra pink color, the water needs to be in direct sunlight, the best time to catch this really cool phenomenon is at noon on a clear day.

I shot this with my drone, and of course, it is best if you have a model to make the photo more interesting or simply add the human element. Who is the model I brought? Her name is Mercedes, without this shot wouldn’t be as cool, however, you don’t have to bring a model for this place to be epic. If I would have been alone, I would have asked someone there or simply used myself to give the place some perspective.

I edited this shot with my aerial presets. They are tastefully re-mastered.

Las Coloradas Mexico

Las Coloradas Mexico, where are they and why are they pink. the pink lagoon in mexico,

If you want to visit these places, I highly recommend a guided tour. To go on your own is kind of an adventure and hard to find the cool spots.

Hilton Playa del Carmen, the last photo

Hilton Playa del Carmen. This is the last photo I shot before leaving playa del carmen. As you know I moved to Playa del Carmen Mexico at the beginning of the year. In January to be exact. I was there for 7 months exactly. Why did I move there? Well, that’s a discussion I will go deep into in a different blog post, but for now, enjoy this cool shot.

I actually flew my drone from my rooftop, and if you look close enough you can see the rooftop I’m flying from. I really like how the colors came out. I shot this at dusk right after the sunset. This is the Hilton in Playa del Carmen Mexico, I actually lived next door. I always got a kick out of talking to tourists telling them how I came to visit and never left.

Best Place to Photograph the Sunset in Playa del Carmen

Where is the best place to photograph the sunset in Playa del Carmen Mexico? This is a question I often get since I have been living here for a little while.

Playa del Carme is a great place to visit if you are a photographer, however, it can be a daunting place to find locations. Do not worry I have your back.

The best photography spot in Playa del Carmen to shoot the sunset can be found right on the beach, at the old ferry station going to Cozumel. Remember it’s the old ferry station, not the current one being in use. You can find the old pier south of the current pier.

The Gear

The gear I use for all my photos: Nikon D850 with a Nikon 14-24mm a Nikon 24-85mm a Nikon 70-200.  A MeFOTO tripod is a must. I edit all my images with my Lightroom Presets download them and give them a try.

However, I shot these photos with my iPhone. I have been doing a lot of iPhone photography lately and I am having a blast with it. It’s not like a real camera but the photos look really good.

Best Place to Photograph the Sunset in Playa del Carmen

To get there simply google Panama Jack resort. Once you get to Panama Jack simply follows the road all the way to the beach and that same road turns into the old pier. Here you can go crazy and get some really epic shots of the sunset.
