Best Photography Spots In Malta and Gozo

Where are the best places to photograph in Malta? In this post, I will break down the best spots to take photos in Malta and Gozo.

Malta is an island in the central Mediterranean sea. It is full of history and surrounded by the most beautiful waters in the world.  Having spent some time there, I have searched every corner of this beautiful place and have found the most picturesque spots.

Walking through the streets of Malta is like stepping back in time. The architecture is stunning, and walking through the cobblestone streets just puts a grin on your face.

From the city to the outskirts I always felt at peace. A place with so much beauty just does that to you.

Blue Lagoon Malta

The Blue Lagoon in Malta is quite amazing. I have heard about this paradise before, but seeing it with my own eyes is something else.

The Blue Lagoon is located between Malta and Gozo in the Mediterranean sea. You can get a boat charter there or rent a boat and take your self there. I did both. When I arrived there I felt like I was in paradise, I was so happy to be there. I hiked the island and swam in the perfect waters. It was just incredible. Make sure you bring some water and some snacks specially if you are going to stay there all day, and trust me you are going to want to do just that.

I’m not done with The Blue Lagoon just yet. I see a few more trips to this incredible place in my near future.

Sunset in Malta

Malta is a magical place. Its one of those places you had no idea existed, and when you get there, you are happy you arrived. I shot this in Gozo. Gozo is the neighbor island next to Malta. I was lucky enough to spend a week there in this incredible home overlooking the ocean. Malta is truly an incredible place that you must see.

Here are my settings: 1/400 sec f4.5 ISO 250

I shot this at a higher ISO because I wanted the photo to be really sharp. Often when you zoom in with a 70-200 lens you will get a blurry photo unless you shoot it at a fast shutter speed.

Calypso Cave Malta

Calypso Cave is located in a cliff just off Xaghra; overlooking Gozo’s most sought-after sandy beach, Ramla Bay.

This site is thought to be the same cave Homer mentioned in `The Odyssey’ where Calypso, the beautiful nymph, kept Odysseus as a `prisoner of love’ for seven years.

Calypso had promised him immortality if he stayed with her, but he escaped when he could, and returned to his wife Penelope.

Stunning views of Ramla Bay
Natural sites – Calypso cave
It is presumed that the cave is a complex labyrinth, extending down to sea level at some points, however, stone boulders block the way a few metres inwards.

The cave’s interior and exterior are not too impressive but the magnificent views over Ramla Bay and the valley make the visit all worth it.

On the shore below Calypso Cave one can also observe the remains of the Marsalforn tower, a fortification built by the Knights of Malta in the early-eighteenth century to protect against sea-ward attacks. Source Malta.com
