Where is the Bonsai Rock in Lake Tahoe located? The Lake Tahoe Bonsai Rock location is exactly one mile south of Sand Harbor Beach. This place is incredible, it’s a bit of a steep climb down and up but nothing a decent pair of sneakers can’t handle. It’s about a 5-minute hike if you walk slow. This is one of the most photographed places in Lake Tahoe and when you get there you will see why. (see map below at the bottom of the page).

Lake Tahoe Bonsai Rock Location Address
The Lake Tahoe Bonsai Rock exact address is NV-28, New Washoe City, NV 89704. It can be easy to miss so drive slowly and make sure you look out for it.
The Gear
The gear I used for all my photos: Nikon with a Nikon 14-24mm and a Nikon 24-85mm. A MeFOTO tripod and a wide angle is a must. I edit all my images with my Lightroom Presets download them and give them a try.
It’s a good idea to get here about 45 minutes before the sun sets so you can scope out a good spot to shoot from and also get some good day shots, or simply to enjoy its beauty. If you have more time I suggest you go check out Sand Harbor Beach, but you might get stuck there, it’s that good :)
This is my favorite photo I of the Bonsai Rock. When I shot it I had the biggest grin on my face, not only because I knew I was getting a great shot, but simply because I couldn’t believe what was happening in front of my eyes.
When you get there you are guaranteed to run into other photographers, usually, there will be one or 2 setting up or simply enjoying the scenery.
I always find it a bit crazy when photographers leave after the sun sets. Make sure you stay for the blue hour and get some night shots, I mean this are some of the best photos you can possibly get, so be sure and stay a while.

Thanks, Edin. So now Bonsai Rock and South Harbor will definitely to be the main spot!!! My main photo gear is Canon 5DMK4, Sony A7R2, Canon16-35mm f4.0 lens, and the Sony 12-24mm f4.0 lens, with a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod. No filter, not even polarizers or any ND filters needed due to the very high dynamic range of both the Canon and Sony bodies. I was considering taking a photography tour of Lake Tahoe to save time due to my weak right knee. However, probably like you and other photographers, we do not like the time restrictions of following the schedule for the tour!!! Your (2) posts certainly save time for me!!! I now think about the idea of posting a few good photos, info, and tips for the places that I have been, mostly most National Parks on the West, Alberta-Canada (Banff-Jasper), Rome, and Iceland to other photographers or whoever is genuinely interested. Sharing knowledge with other, as Learn/Teach and Tech/Learn, is the right thing to do. I do believe in Free Will, Karma, reincarnation, practice The Law Of One philosophy, and being NICE. Thanks again for the great work of sharing and best of luck. Feel really strange but since your article helped me so much if you have time and happen to be at Lake Tahoe next week from Monday 09/10 to Friday 09/14, contact me on my Instagram of Chasing_The_Ascension. Hopefully not going overboard too much. Thanks again for the great effort. I am very appreciated. Best Regards, Vu.
That’s awesome, I am glad my articles helped you out. I am always happy sharing my experiences with others, after all, that’s what life is all about, sharing. I would love to join you on a photo tour, however, I am on the East Coast at the moment. If you are ever in Miami, let me know :) Following you on Instagram :) Stay in touch.

Edin,
Hello, I am a retired member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and I will be in Reno in August. I am trying to find someone who enjoys photography that would like to go on a day excursion for a few shots. Please let me know as I am already scheduling my trip.

Hi Paul, thank you for taking the time to write. Unfortunately I do not live there, but if you are ever in Miami, please reach out :)
Thanks for sharing, great insight about the place! I will plan a trip to see the place. What’s the best time in the year to photograph this place?
No problem, my pleasure. Anytime really, but winter would be nice with all the snow.
Thank you so much for the information! Your pictures are breathtaking!
It’s my pleasure, thank you for dropping in :)

It’s my pleasure. Thank you for stopping by.
I’m getting married in Lake Tahoe 10/20. We intend on just hiking and finding a good spot to say our vows and get some good pics. BONSAI ROCK looks like the perfect location. Anymore info would be great. Thank you for the great info so far.
This is the perfect place for that. It is very easy to get to and it is epic at sunset. Do share the photos :)
Bonsai Rock is such a gem! I stumbled upon it during my last visit to Lake Tahoe and was absolutely mesmerized by its beauty. The way the sunlight dances on the water and the surrounding cliffs create a magical atmosphere. It’s definitely a must-visit spot for anyone exploring the area!
